Biography

Canadian artist Mario Mauro was born in Rivignano, Italy in September of 1920. At a very young age, Mauro was attracted to the arts and studied mosaic and painting at the Spillibergo Academy. Four years later, he entered the Brera Fine Arts Academy in Milan. After completing his education, he was conscripted to the army and therefore had to put his artistic passions on hold.

In 1950, Mauro established himself in Quebec and became interested in religious art. For the next seventeen years, he worked in the churches of several Canadian provinces and made numerous frescoes, mosaics and stain glasses. Inspired by Impressionism, he became fascinated by the beauty of the landscape, particularly that of the Charlevoix region, and spent many hours replicating the scenery with oil and acrylic.

Mauro has held several solo exhibitions, namely in Quebec City, Montreal and Ottawa. His artworks can be found in numerous public and private collections, both in Canada and in the United States.
