Canadian contemporary artist Margaret Ellis Nachshen was born in Wirral, Cheshire, England, and originally pursued a career in physiotherapy. While working in Montreal she began studying at Concordia University, where she received a BA with distinctions in studio art and creative writing. She has exhibited across North America and has received many national and international awards.

Biography

Canadian contemporary artist Margaret Ellis Nachshen was born in Wirral, Cheshire, England. Nachshen was educated in England, Scotland and Canada and originally pursued a career in physiotherapy. She was a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy based in London, England. While working at the Children’s Hospital and the MacKay Centre, Margaret began studying art at Concordia University, where she received a BA with distinctions in studio art and creative writing.

Margaret has served as a juror for both the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour and the Society of Canadian Artists. Her art has been featured in many art magazines and in the book “SPLASH : A Celebration of Light — The Best of Watercolor”.

The artist has exhibited across North America with the CSPWC at the John B. Aired Gallery in Toronto, the American Artists Professional League and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Exhibit in New York.

Nachshen has received many national and international awards such as the Edgar A. Whitney Memorial Award for watercolor and the medal of honour from the Society of Canadian Artists and from the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club at the National Arts Club in New York. As well, her painting was chosen for a joint Canada-France exhibition "Between Friends Across the Sea— Entre Amis", which took place in Avignon and Ontario. Recently, Margaret donated an entire gallery to the Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre Foundation.
