Alice Blair Pollard Thomas was born in 1857 in Collingwood, Ontario. In 1887 she married an artist, Adolphus Richard Thomas. Pollard was known for her Canadian landscapes using watercolor and oil paint. Many people don’t know she also spent quite a while painting all over Europe and even India. Pollard made quite the name for herself despite being a female in a time where women who were artists wasn’t ‘common’. She passed away in the year 1945, but her art was still being exhibited even 20 years after her passing.

Alice Blair Pollard Thomas was born in 1857 in Collingwood, Ontario. Pollard went on to study at Bishop Strachan’s School in Toronto and was starting to make a name for herself. In 1887 she married an artist, Adolphus Richard Thomas.
1901 was the first time of many that the self-taught artist’s paintings were exhibited in the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. Shortly after her last exhibit in the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (1916) her and her husband moved to Vancouver, British Columbia where they continued to do art. In 1917 they moved once again to Los Angeles to be closer to her family. Around the same time her husband began to gain popularity in the local art scene.
Pollard was well known for making beautiful landscape paintings with watercolor and oil paint. She was best known for her Canadian landscapes, but she also spent time painting in Europe, England, India and Scotland. Pollard exhibited her artwork countless times and made history by being a female artist in an era where it was ‘unheard of’. Alice Blair Pollard Thomas passed in 1945 but her paintings continued to be exhibited even after her passing.
