Artist

Marcel Ravary

Born in Montreal in 1940, Marcel Ravary studied at the Fine Arts School of Montreal. He was involved in several artistic fields, like scene direction and stage setting before he started his full-time career as a landscape artist in 1970.

His works tell the story of everyday life in Montreal, such as children playing,  using humour and realism.

Before turning his hand to painting full time Ravary worked in theatre design and also taught.

His work focuses mainly on situations or souvenirs left by other people. The artist seems to be fascinated by urban architecture or rural architecture. The painter likes to work the urban scenes because he can explore the many architectural movements and the moving of the actors between the buildings. The artist wishes to make us feel the different atmospheres of the explored sites and of the activity that is concentrated in it. This impression of dynamism circulates inside of the painting, taking us to its middle and then throwing us at the periphery.
