René Tardif was born in Sainte-Foy, Quebec. From a very young age, Tardif demonstrated a profound love for the arts and began to draw. As a teenager, he transitioned from drawing to oil painting, which he preferred above all. He continued to explore his artistic talent in nature, under the tutelage of one of his teachers, who encouraged him to explore the elements of color, light and composition. It was in this environment that he created his first on site sketches.
In 1984, Tardif successfully held his first solo exhibition. Since then, he has exhibited regularly in the regions of Charlevoix, Gaspésie, Saguenay, Estrie and more particularly in the Bas Saint-Laurent, the country of his ancestors.
The artist’s favorite subjects are landscapes that represent the interaction of elements and their constantly renewed transformations and seasons, as they represent both emotional and spiritual comfort. His studies in color and photography as well as his research on plastic mediums allow him to continue to work as well-rounded artist and solid craftsman.
