Canadian and self-taught artist Richard Riverin was born in Quebec, Montreal in 1942. Riverin graduated with a bachelors degree in chemistry from the University of Sherbrooke and quickly developed his own company, specializing in the formulation of speciality paint coatings. In 1976, he sold his company and purchased an art gallery in Naples, Florida.
As a gallery owner, Riverin became familiar with the market and at the age of of fifty-seven, became an artist in his own right. He soon became one of the best selling artists in Naples and eventually, one of the most successful exhibitors at ArtExpo NewYork over a period of fifteen years. He sold over 4000 original paintings and has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Montreal, Palm Beach, Naples, Washington, Jacksonville, Greensboro and New York.
In 2015, Riverin returned to Canada and currently conducts business from his home studio. He is also a published author of “Ghama-2: An Afterlife Story”(2002) and numerous short stories.
Riverin developed his own personal style consisting of a unique pallet-knife technique and personal paint blend. Using his background as a chemist, Riverin formulated his own special mixture of paint— one that produces a heavy and rich texture and that is secure against the cracks and crevices developed over time. His art is uniquely characterized and avidly recognized by the combination of heavy texture, spontaneous feel, diversity and harmonious colour.
