Biography

Montreal artist Sonia Indelicato Roseval was born in Tunis, Tunisia in 1955. Inspired by and passionate about the architecture of Old Montreal, Roseval took on her first exhibit in the 1980’s. It was at this exhibit that she met her future mentor and internationally renowned artist Francois Lortie. Lortie introduced her to acrylic painting and the dynamism of the international market.

In the early 1990’s, Roseval moved to Queens, New York where she acquired a heightened sense of confidence as an artist. In 1993, she travelled around the United States and was inspired by the wonder of nature— Monuments Valley, the mountains of Oregon, the Nebraska sand dunes and the Hopi lands of New Mexico. Roseval was also inspired by her international travels from the oceans of South Africa to the eternal vastness of the Bali rice fields. Roseval’ s works are currently in numerous private collections and museums located in America. Her pastels have been exhibited at Espace Laoun Gallery, William Street Gallery and Le Palais de Congres, among others.

Throughout her artistic career, Roseval has gathered inspiration from the beauty of nature and the people she has met along her journeys. Her art ranges from acrylics to pastels, both of which are self-taught mediums. Her artistic style has expanded from chromatic abstractions to her most recent pastels, that which create a unique median between figurative representation and abstraction.
