Man Transforming into Thunderbird by Doug Kakekagumick
Douglas Kakekagumick was born in December, 1958 on a reserve in North Western Ontario named Sandy Lake. He started painting in the summer of 1979 and began to paint images of legends and stories from his Oji-Cree culture. Kakekagumick was largely influenced by Carl Ray, one of the founding members of the “Indian group of Seven”, they were from the same reserve and he found inspiration from Ray’s depiction of their cultural heritage.
