Biography

Canadian artist Louis Tremblay was born in Baie-St-Paul, Quebec in 1949. At an early age, Tremblay became acquainted with painter René Richard, a friend of his father’s, who encouraged him to pursue an artistic career. Tremblay went on to study at the Université du Québec in Chicoutimi from 1980 to 1985 before studying art history at the Université Laval from 1985 to 1986 and in 1991.

In 1969, he won the Grand Prix of the Baie-Saint-Paul Symposium, which allowed him to travel to France for six weeks. Afterwards, he quickly established his reputation by holding solo exhibitions throughout Quebec. His works can be found in various public and private collections in Quebec City and Toronto; Alcan, Pratt and Whitney, the Consulate of Franc, Power Corporation, Desjardins, I.B.M., Bank of Nova Scotia and Inter Gaz.

The artist’s favorite subjects include semi-abstract landscapes and rural scenes of Baie-Saint-Paul, Kamouraska and the Gaspé Peninsula. He pulls inspiration, motivation and technique from Canadian artists such as Clarence Gagnon, William Brymner and A.Y Jackson.
