Biography

Gilbert Lessard is a fifth-generation artist born in Quebec, Canada who has been painting for over 40 years. He enjoys painting landscapes and vintage automobiles in a photo-realistic style using oils and multiple coats of glaze that add the illusion of depth and space. Scenes for landscape paintings are chosen mainly from the Eastern Townships of Québec, New England, and more recently, Tuscany, Italy. Lessard has revealed that he is inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds him, paying close attention to the shapes, colours, sounds and smells. Being a car buff, Lessard uses car exhibitions that he’s attended in North America as inspiration for his paintings. Realistic rendition of reflections in chrome on automobiles from the 1930-70’s is one of his specialties. Lessard also produces still life paintings, some also featuring various bugs and frogs, that are done in vivid colours with objects posed on reflective surfaces in order to get a three-dimensional effect.

While still very young, Lessard took three first place awards for his art at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Lessard’s artworks have been purchased by people across North America as well as England, Italy and Australia.
